Subject: Air Charlie and status since stem cell therapy

Dear Jake,

I'm writing to tell you about the progress of our wonderful 14 year old Australian Shepherd, Air Charlie pictured above from a photo we took this morning.  Charlie successfully beat cancer this year following removal of a stage 1 sarcoma and subsequent radiation treatments but still suffered from arthritis in his hips. This latter condition was starting to interfere with his ability to engage in daily activities.  His liver functions were also increasing likely due to the chronic use of a Coxib inhibitor.

Dr. Voynick and I decided, given that Charlie's otherwise overall health status was excellent and he remained filled with an amazing spirit, to try stem cell therapy.  Our hope was that stem cell treatment might provide sufficient improvement in his hips to permit stopping the anti-inflammatory agent (in addition to helping his overall liver function in general).  He received stem cell therapy on June 20, 2010.

For several days just after the stem cell treatment he clearly wanted to take it easy and we did not see any worsening or any improvement.  But then exactly 5 days post procedure, changes started to occur. Since then, and visible on a daily basis, Charlie's whole attitude has become increasingly more positive. He is vibrant and really, really happy.  Each day he seems stronger and more easily able to get around.  We stopped giving him the Coxib inhibitor unless he really appeared to need it which was not often.

It is now late September.  He no longer needs medication for his hips except on rare occasion when we use it PRN.  He moves around much more easily. He is wagging his tail and smiling all the time.  He takes his daily walks and can often be seen trotting after the younger dogs (like a good old dog but what we now refer to as Charlie "running"). He still likes to sleep a lot which is expected at this age, but all in all we all agree that Charlie has had noticeable improvement and is truly a "younger" dog than he was before he had the stem cell treatment.  He is doing the stairs more easily too and oh yes, an odd sore on his back paw that would just not heal is completely gone!

Pretty unbelievable results overall.  We are very happy we were able to work with Dr. Voynick and provide stem cell therapy to our beloved Air Charlie. I'm happy to speak to other interested parties to help other animals take advantage of this wonderful technology.

Sincerely,

Leslie Amass
